Job Summary
The Client Engagement Specialist serves as the first point of contact for individuals accessing MHRC’s Comprehensive Service Centers (CSCs), providing a welcoming and supportive entry into care. This role supports timely, person-centered engagement by completing pre-appointment activities such as screenings, intake updates, required assessments, vital signs, and evaluation of health-related social needs to support treatment planning.
The Client Engagement Specialist serves as the first point of contact for individuals accessing MHRC’s Comprehensive Service Centers (CSCs), providing a welcoming and supportive entry into care. This role supports timely, person-centered engagement by completing pre-appointment activities such as screenings, intake updates, required assessments, vital signs, and evaluation of health-related social needs to support treatment planning.
This position promotes recovery-oriented care, strengthens engagement, and helps ensure smooth transitions into appropriate services across MHRC programs.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the initial, person-centered point of contact for CSC clients.
- Guide individuals through intake and pre-appointment processes, including required forms and screenings (e.g., C-SSRS).
- Conduct Health-Related Social Needs (HRSN) screenings and enter data into the EHR.
- Obtain and document vital signs, BMI, tobacco use, and other health indicators.
- Register clients in the EHR with accurate demographic, clinical, and administrative data.
- Obtain and document consents and required regulatory forms.
- Complete documentation in accordance with state and agency guidelines.
- Identify health risks and provide brief interventions or referrals as needed.
- Update allergy and medication information using available pharmacy data.
- Provide tobacco cessation education and resources when appropriate.
- Facilitate warm hand-offs to internal and external providers.
- Identify social determinants of health (SDOH) barriers such as housing, transportation, and identification needs.
- Collaborate with care teams to support smooth transitions into services.
- Identify individuals at risk of suicide and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Recognize and report concerns related to abuse, neglect, or trauma per policy.
- Educate clients on services, rights, and available supports to encourage engagement and empowerment.

- Reduces time spent on documentation, allowing more focus on client interaction and care
- Transforms brief notes or session conversations into complete, clinically appropriate documentation
- Supports accurate, compliant documentation while allowing staff to review and finalize notes
- Provides helpful insights from sessions to support care planning and continuity
- Accessible on desktop or mobile for flexibility across different work settings
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Social Work or a related Human Services field from an accredited university or college required.
- Minimum of one year of experience in human services or behavioral health required; experience working with adults with mental illness preferred.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in MHRC EHR System within three months of employment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and email are required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with individuals, families, providers, and team members.
Position Details
This position is a Full Time Days position: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.

Mental Health Resource Center, Inc. (MHRC) is a nonprofit organization that provides a wide range of behavioral health and social services to the community. Included in MHRC’s service array are 24-hour emergency services and inpatient psychiatric services for children, adolescents, and adults. Outpatient services include medication management, care coordination, case management, intensive case management team services, counseling, psychosocial rehabilitation, an adult therapeutic family program, state hospital liaison services, mental health court, multidisciplinary forensic teams (MFT), jail-based diversion services, a Co-Responder Program with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the Link-to-Life suicide prevention program, and services that assist individuals in obtaining benefits such as Social Security Income, Social Security Disability Income, Medicaid, food stamps, and housing. In addition, UF Health Jacksonville contracts with MHRC to manage the hospital’s adult inpatient psychiatric unit.
MHRC also operates eight Florida Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) programs for adults with severe and persistent mental illness, located in Clearwater, Gainesville, Jacksonville, Kissimmee, Rockledge, Tampa, and Winter Haven, as well as a FACT Lite program providing Linking, Advocating, Treating, Transitioning, Empowering & Recovery Support (LATTERS) services in Jacksonville. The two FACT teams located in Jacksonville serve residents of Duval, Clay, and Nassau counties.
